Physician Association of California Endorses Xavier Becerra for Governor
The Physician Association of California (PAC), the sole association focused on protecting and advocating for its 15,000 independent and small-practice physicians throughout California, today announced they have endorsed Xavier Becerra for Governor, citing his long record of public service and experience improving healthcare.
“We are proud to endorse Xavier Becerra,” said Omer Deen, Chair of PAC’s board of directors. “During his long tenure in public service, Secretary Becerra has shown that he will fight to preserve the patient/doctor relationship, and to make healthcare more affordable. As attorney general, he fought for the Affordable Healthcare Act and against hospital consolidation. As Secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services Agency, he lowered healthcare prices by negotiating down drug prices for the first time in US history.”
Secretary Becerra’s healthcare accomplishments include:
Helping write and pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in Congress
Fought to preserve access and coverage gains made under the ACA
Holding hospital systems accountable for consolidating the market, driving up healthcare prices
Championing ACO arrangements that allow private practice physicians to participate in value based care
Opposed “junk insurance,” short-term, limited-benefit plans that undermine ACA standards
Defended evidence-based medicine
